We moved to Wilmington from Texas after running a summer camp for the past decade. Our hope is to give the same outdoor experience to our kids year round after seeing how they thrived with hands on experiences in nature. Travis has a background in entrepreneurship tied with youth development after starting businesses like Apex Leadership Co. and DinnerTable.com. Mandi is a Licensed Professional Counselor with a focus on preventative health and has 20+ years of working with youth from camping to more clinical settings. We want an educational environment that allows our kids who are bent high energy and independent to thrive- Wilmington Outdoor Microschool is the brainchild of the drives of our family and other like-minded families wanting the same.
Tuition for 2026-2027 is $12,750.
Our school is a 5-day program, Monday through Friday, 8am-3pm. We also have a 1 to 3 day option for homeschool families.
Our 6th-8th Grade Hybrid Homeschool program combines the freedom of home education with the hands-on grit of our outdoor, learner-driven campus. Our days are filled with a sports specialty, core skills (do our curriculum or continue your own), and real-world skill workshops. Sign up for 2 or 3 days each week.
We don't believe in outsourcing parenting. WOM parents are problem solvers and pitch in where they can, shuttling kids, leading a workshop, or connecting us to world-class apprentices in town.
Rain or shine, we aim to spend most of our days outside.
We are a phone free school, unless you'd like to wear a WHOOP watch to monitor exercise, sleep, and overall health.
We live in the age of Google. We need to shift from learning to know to learning to be. Kids are naturally curious and born geniuses. Our job as guides and coaches is to get out of the way and allow learners to fail, try again, and fail some more. This is where true mastery is formed.
We believe kids learn best outdoors. We want children to be exposed to a variety of interests and when they discover their passion early, the drive follows. Children are like seeds, give them the right conditions and they will grow into who they are meant to become.
What if you could learn double in half the time? Are we wasting time in traditional education models studying and teaching to a standardized test? What if educational coaches had the bandwidth to actually attune and challenge the individual because we are able to outsource to AI generated software that tracks effort and growth mindsets?
Boys are being overly medicated for being high energy and put into environments that expect them to shrink. We want a container that is big enough for our kids to thrive, not just survive. If your child is struggling, maybe your child is not the problem, but the problem is in the environment. "If you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will spend its whole life believing it's stupid." -Einstein
Resilience comes from self-awareness and learning how emotions function. Most of us are not taught this and are still playing catch up as adults. Emotional health is one of the key building blocks to relational success. Our learners are not punished for feeling difficult emotions but taught to ride the wave and harness the big feelings to deeper truths and endurance.
We see the value in team sports, competition and the drive it produces in all areas of life. Our boys at Wilmington Outdoor Microschool want to be pushed and challenged. We provide ample time in the day for athletes to become top tier in their sport with our 2 hour learning model. The crossover from teammate to classmate doubles down on results that will last a lifetime.

Growing up in the heart of the Colorado Rockies in Aspen, Olivia was on skis before her second birthday and spent her childhood hiking, biking, and learning to "fix just about anything" alongside her father. Her education was defined by "hard things": from studying geology in Arches National Park to completing a 30-mile backpacking trip that culminated in a 24-hour wilderness solo at age 13. Armed only with a tarp, rope, and her own grit, those formative experiences shaped Olivia into a leader who values growth, reflection, and the power of real-world struggle.
Professionally, Olivia brings a heavy-hitting combination of management expertise and academic excellence. She holds a Master of Science in Gerontology (graduating with a 4.0 GPA) and a degree in Kinesiology, giving her a deep, scientific understanding of human development and movement. Her career spans from managing large-scale healthcare programs and multi-thousand-dollar budgets to leading summer camps for children with diverse physical and neurodivergent needs.
Olivia is a compassionate strategist who understands that for a child to thrive, they need an environment that challenges them while providing a firm foundation of support. Whether she is designing outdoor programming or managing complex logistics, her focus remains on fostering curiosity and competence.

Kevin brings the ultimate embodiment of "grit" to the WOM community. As a former Navy SEAL, Kevin has operated in the most high-stakes, unpredictable environments on the planet—experiences that taught him the true meaning of resilience, teamwork, and self-discipline. At WOM, he translates that elite leadership into a mentorship style that encourages boys to lean into the struggle and find out what they are truly capable of. Kevin is equally committed to the "soft" side of leadership; he is the creator of the Kindness Coin, a tangible initiative designed to reward and cultivate empathy and emotional awareness in young men. He believes that true character is built when physical toughness is paired with a heart for others.
